Stompin' In My AF1's

It's hard to say no to a pair of sneakers, especially Nike's.  While spending most of my adolescence being a tomboy, growing up with a twin brother, it's hard to shake my old ways.  It is quite amusing to think the girl who used to rock dirty high-tops & over-sized GAP sweaters (remember those? they need a comeback) now lusts over sparkly dresses & shoes higher then my tippy toes can handle. It's that instant moment when I slip my feet into a cloud of cushion that a sneaker contains that I fall in love again.  Hey, girls can be sneakerheads too.  Now amongst the customized sneakers I own, ones with prints, some so metallic the sun is scared to hit them, and other trendy shoes companies put out, there is nothing like a true classic.  The Air Force One is exactly that.

A wise man by the name of Nelly once said "Now don't nothing get the hype on the first site like white on whites."  When Nike asked me to style the classic white on white AF1's, I was totally thrilled. Not only are they iconic, but to see them that white & clean made me never want to let them step on these NYC streets.  But hey, what's the use if you can't stomp around in them in probably one of the most appropriate cities to do so?  I paired them with Nike's amazing city leggings, a classic Nike racer tank, & my own customized Levi's Jacket. With sneakers like this, the options are pretty much limitless. But if you see me wearing them, please don't step on my feet, or else there will be problems.

Amazing Grace

Grace Coddington speaking at Teen Vogue's Fashion University.

See that little darling radiant red head in the photo above?  How can you not?
It's no surprise that you may possibly fall in love with Grace Coddington by just taking a glimpse at her, or perhaps seeing her in a documentary you may know as "The September Issue".  As being apart of something so amazing as Teen Vogue, it really influenced me to go beyond and expand my knowledge about the legends that make Vogue what it is.  Grace is just that.  By only knowing her by her beautifully thought out art direction among the legendary pages of Vogue, I got to know her a little better after seeing her speak at Teen Vogue's Fashion University this year.  She was promoting her recently released memoir, & also informing young hopefuls that if you want to work under her, you must love cats.  What inspired me most is her attitude.  Her story is a magnificent one, and the way she tells it is nothing less than alluring.  Her recently released book contains everything from her first photo shoot as a model ever, to her later monumental spreads she has worked on as Vogue's creative director.  If you need a winter read, this is definitely a must. (or the perfect gift for the fashion lover you know this holiday!)

Beautifully haunting vintage photos of Grace are displayed on pages.

What is there not to love about her quirky doodles? This one struck my fancy.

I just started reading it, & I can't put it down.

American Pilgrim

Happy Thanksgiving my loves!

It's that one day of the year to think about all the things you are thankful for & most importantly stuff your face with everything your Mom makes.  But really, with a tragedy so close to home this year it's important to count your blessings and enjoy the company of your loved ones.

When usually playing Indian vs. Pilgrim,  I usually take the Indian side due to any excuse to wear leather & feathers.  This time around I tried my best pilgrim.  I switched up the usual white button down to one with a classic car pattern.  The rest was left to the usual all black that pilgrims are known for.  While I may be offending real pilgrims, I thought it seemed like an entertaining outfit choice to explain to my elder relatives.

Have an awesome day, eat pie.

Is It Still Skirt Weather?

This post should probably be the sequel to my previous hat obsessed post from earlier this month, or the fact that I dressed in Thanksgiving colors but it's another rant about how much I will try to continuously sneak in Spring items into my Fall/Winter outfits. I haven't accepted the fact that here in NYC we've already had our first snowfall, also not to mention  the fact that I can't trade in my long easy skirts for heavy warm pants. As a hello to winter & a sad goodbye to fall, I promised my skirt from OBEY that it would get one last hurrah.  Along with being stubborn about wearing pants, one can also hold onto the notion not wearing a real winter jacket.  Layer, layer, layer.. it will be your best friend.  Try a heavy blazer like I have from J.Crew.  You never know when those glorious global warming days will hit you.

Socks and ankle boots are also a lifesaver for being comfy, keeping warm, and looking good without the effort.  Above are the amazing Jax Booties by Dolce Vita.

Blazer: J.Crew | Button Up Shirt: Uniqlo | Side Slit Skirt: Obey | Jax Booties: Dolce Vita | Bag & Hat: Marc by Marc Jacobs

I'm a Marc baby till the end. Also a hat hoarder.  If you haven't yet, please get a pom pom hat.  It won't disappoint you.

Until next time. Stay warm!

Holiday Warmup : Hey Mom..

With Thanksgiving around the corner, & department stores ready to unveil their holiday windows, this festive season is totally ready to give you a good damper on your stress level, bank account, body, & of course your ability to look presentable for every event. Well Hakuna Matata, I'm here to give a little holiday outfit inspiration every week from now until that clock hits 12:00 AM, in event I may not be able to correctly type at that point.

Scenario A:
You usually go home for the holidays. Whether you live apart from your immediate family or are attending college away in distance lands, you know you're gonna have to pack up that rolling rack and live in your old bedroom full of magazine clippings (mine are mostly Kate Moss, I had an early appreciation for nudity, the males in my family didn't seem to mind).

What family events or high school classmate bar crawls will be driving you crazy about your outfit?   How will you know what to bring home???

Solution:
The female Scott Disick. The Lady Disick to be exact.
Yeah I said the one who shall not be named, Lord Disick.  Lately I've been really getting into menswear. Blazers, tailored pants, or what have you.  Not only is the Lady Disick elegantly casual, it also has the ability to be representable to your family, as well as doubling for an outfit for the night.  Pieces like a blazer can also have multi-uses later on during your stay.  I paired shiny silver tailored pants with a printed blazer for an extra holiday feel.  Now you don't have to go totally serious with a button up, try something fun like a plain loose white t-shirt or a graphic tee like I tried out below.  Have fun with it, & if your Mom or girlfriends think your crazy... the Lady Disick is in full effect.
Blazer: Zara | Tee Shirt: OVO | Silver Speckled Pants: H&M | Loafers: Bass loves Rachel Antonoff | Sunglasses: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Compliment your blazer and skinny pant combo with a pair of loafers.  I typically swear by all shoes made by Rachel Antonoff. I don't recall what oxfords or loafers look like before she started making them for Bass (I am that in love).

As I said I will be frequenting more holiday inspired posts, so stay tuned!

Maybe you should..

Don't forget! I love America so much, this is just an excuse to wear all my flag related articles of clothing & celebrate.  Remember you hold the power to choose. (& think about how old you are going to be by the next coming election, better start now while you're still young. Just kidding people.)

Take Me Down To Paradise City

One thing that the fall & winter certainly bring us are big comfy sweaters. Something that also has been seeping into the likes of major retailers are printed leggings. This can go terribly wrong with a cheesy leopard print or semi-sparkling zebra print, but it can also go so wrong that it feels right.  Now I have never frequented the choice of Hawaiian print items in my wardrobe, but when I found these leggings, some weird inclination in my head told me I need them.  Now that winter is right around the corner, my quick go-to outfit seems to be an oversized comfy sweater and a ridiculous pair of printed leggings/pants.
Sweater: H&M  | Hawaiian Printed Leggings: Asos | Flower Crown: DIY | Sneakers: Converse (Obviously)

And I bring you the ever so popular flower crown. I made this one myself, and I promise you it's much more satisfying then buying a shitty one.

Nefertiti

With the gloom of this weather it's hard to even get out of your home.  The good part is it's finally time to break out awesome things like hats with pom pom balls at the top. Say what you may about Supreme, but their hat game this winter is nothing less than enjoyable.  Warm as they come with knitted graphics varying from pixels to Egyptian queens. It was a nice surprise to see Nefertiti taken out of my art history books onto an article of clothing. She may not leave my head this winter.
